Respect

Equally as important is the way Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples feel about shopping in our stores.

To express this commitment, we asked Gilimbaa Creative Agency to help us create a piece of artwork from a national perspective that we could display on stores around the country. Kmart’s vision is for Rachael Sarra’s ‘Ignite the Wonder’ artwork to be our voice of support and recognition directly to Aboriginal & Torres Strait islander peoples. Rachel is a Goreng Goreng woman from Queensland, and her message about the art work is: “I don’t need to be on Goreng Goreng Country to feel its connection. It is a place that lives in me, in my mind and in my spirit. It is an energy. The connection to my culture and the spirit from my ancestors ignites a purpose within me. Filling me with joy, warmth and wonder. This place, this connection is for all of us to share. So, I painted this feeling, I painted this place….”
