Kmart consumer guarantee returns policy

This policy applies to Kmart products purchased in store and on kmart.com.au. Please note, products purchased from Target on kmart.com.au cannot be returned to or processed by Kmart stores.

All refund rights under both State and Commonwealth law apply. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and failure does not amount to a major failure. If the failure is minor, we reserve our right to offer to repair only.

Definition of consumer guarantee return

A return is considered a consumer guarantee return if your product is faulty or doesn’t meet consumer guarantees.

If you wish to return a product because you have changed your mind or need a different size, colour or style, refer instead to the change of mind policy.

If you have purchased a product from a marketplace seller, refer instead to the Marketplace returns policy.

If you have purchased a product from Target on kmart.com.au, refer instead to the Target Consumer Guarantees policy.

Consumer guarantee return requirements

Kmart will accept product returns under consumer guarantees where:

  • The product is faulty or is not of acceptable quality;

  • The product doesn’t do what the packaging states it can;

  • The product does not match the sample or description; or

  • The product has been recalled

Consumer guarantee proof of purchase requirements

Kmart will accept returns of Kmart branded products (Anko, OXX, etc) that meet consumer guarantee return requirements without proof of purchase. In such cases, an exchange voucher will be provided.

Non-Kmart branded products require adequate proof of purchase, including:

  • The Kmart receipt or digital receipt in the Kmart app or online account;

  • A clear photo of the full Kmart receipt, which must include the barcode;

  • A Kmart digital gift receipt;

  • Online Tax Invoice or order confirmation;

  • OnePass statement

Assessing consumer guarantee returns

Kmart may elect to return the product to the manufacturer’s agent to determine the nature of the problem. Kmart reserves the right to assess the condition and age of returned goods prior to providing a repair, exchange or refund. Kmart reserves the right not to offer an exchange, exchange voucher or refund where the product fault is a result of misuse or neglect.

Refunds for consumer guarantee returns

In some instances, Kmart may offer a repair or replacement, rather than a refund. Goods may be replaced by refurbished goods or repaired using refurbished parts.

Refunds processed via EFTPOS or other electronic payment methods may take up to five business days to appear in your account.

Information collection

In some instances, we may ask for information to satisfy operational and governance requirements. If you do not provide this information, Kmart may be unable to process your return. The information you provide may be accessed by authorised Kmart team members and authorised third parties for the purpose of fraud investigations and fraud protection activities. Information collected will be securely stored for a reasonable period of time and may be used for the purposes of research and analysis and may be disclosed to Government departments upon request, where required or authorised by law.
